Hallo Ryan!
I do not think that geographical location is a prerequisite for community. Any community of interests - or common passion - is valid, be they national, territorial, religious, political, commercial, or consumerist, which probably typifies the web more than any other. A nice example is Zionism, which though it is focused on the territory of Israel (and occupied Palestine), unites Zionists dispersed in places all over the world.

As for Discordia, what unites us? For me, I would start with an interest in art, activism,...
